Foyer display: Kathryn Hardy

Three aquatint etchings by Kathryn Hardy - 'Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Ravenna', 'Courtyard of Pilate, Bologna' and 'Interior, San Vitale and Agricola, Bologna'

St Martin-in-the-Fields is home to several commissions and permanent installations by contemporary artists.

We also have an exciting programme of temporary exhibitions, as well as a group of artists and craftspeople from the St Martin’s community who show artwork and organise art projects on a temporary basis.

One of the initiatives from this group is a changing display of work by the group members. Each month a different member of the group will show an example of their work, so, if you are able, do return to see the changing display.

This month Kathryn Hardy is displaying three aquatint etchings from a series of Italian churches drawn from late September 2017.

Kathryn has been drawing and recording old buildings and churches in the UK and abroad for over a decade, both in her work as a conservation architect and through sketchbooks and paintings in her spare time. She has recently turned to aquatint etching as a way of combining drawing with more painterly explorations of light and tone. The process of printmaking frequently throws up unexpected results, helping to discover new ways of looking at familiar subjects.

A selection of her sketch books are also on display and limited edition original prints of her etchings are available for sale at the shop at St Martin's upon enquiry. 50% of the cost of each print will be donated to St Martin’s.
